Self-care: Our topic in May
Do you know the aeroplane rule? It goes something like this: «If the pressure in the cabin drops, oxygen masks automatically fall from the cabin ceiling. Pull the mask towards you and place it firmly over your mouth and nose. If you are travelling with a small child, put on your own mask first and then help the child.» The aeroplane rule illustrates the importance of self-care. To be able to support others effectively, we should look after ourselves first. Self-care reduces stress, provides support and helps us to be less critical of ourselves.
Our dossier looks at why parents often find it difficult not to let life overwhelm them, why a lack of self-care can put a strain on family life and how we can take better care of our own well-being.
I would also like to recommend these three texts from our current issue:
- «Children who are trans often know this very early on,» says child and adolescent psychiatrist Dagmar Pauli in this month's interview.
- Media expert Thomas Feibel knows how we can get our children away from their smartphones.
- What to do when the family is in chaos? Psychologist Stefanie Rietzler reveals five tidying tips.

I hope you enjoy reading it.
