Listening to children properly

When children talk about problems, we immediately have solutions and advice at the ready. However, it's often about listening properly in the first place. This is also shown by the example of the beaver who is sad because the other children are teasing him.

This is part 1 of the video series «What makes children strong». It is the result of a collaboration between psychologists Fabian Grolimund, Stefanie Rietzler and Nora Völker and the parents' magazine Fritz+Fränzi. Ten episodes focus on the development of self-esteem and self-efficacy in children. Each time the magazine is published, a new episode is published online.

«Children with a high expectation of self-efficacy are more confident, actively tackle problems and show more perseverance. High self-esteem is important so that children can accept themselves and their weaknesses and failures,» explains Grolimund.
