«You can't explain school, you have to live it»
"When parents learn that school is different today than it used to be, it triggers feelings ranging from joyful anticipation to uncertainty and fear. With the school café, an event that I created together with the entire entry level, we can make today's school and learning visible to parents and maintain a beneficial contact.
Four times a year, especially in the early evening, we serve parents coffee in the classroom and offer space for questions and informal dialogue. We are delighted that many mums and dads take up this invitation.
I have fond memories of a school café on the subject of learning. We showed how differently children learn.
We always honour the agreement not to talk about individual children at the coffee table. We dedicate each school café to a specific focus. One time we deal with the assessment of the children at school, another time the pupils prepare an exhibition with learning games for maths and German lessons.
We dedicate another meeting to the topic of homework. This is an opportunity to clarify mutual expectations and resolve any ambiguities. At the same time, we use the meeting to familiarise parents with the age-appropriate media platforms for children.
I have fond memories of a school café on the subject of learning. We showed how differently children learn. Afterwards, all parents received an envelope with puzzle pieces that had to be put together to form a square.
We laughed so hard when the first mum complained loudly that her seatmate was copying! Her response was prompt: her two girls were probably also desk neighbours at school and now she finally understood why her daughter often came home with the wrong solution."
