«Pupils should find out what their heart beats for»

Series: Why do I like being a teacher?

What do teachers like about their job? What motivates them in their day-to-day work? Our series, which was created in collaboration with the Zurich University of Teacher Education Intrinsic Campus, explores this question. Here comes part 1.

Part 1: Elsbeth Stamm, senior school teacher in Elsau-Schlatt (ZH)

Elsbeth Stamm has been a passionate secondary school teacher in Elsau-Schlatt (ZH) for over thirty years. «The most important thing for me is that the pupils find out for themselves what is worth getting involved in,» she says. As a secondary school teacher in particular, Elsbeth Stamm focusses on preparing children for the future.

For example, in career guidance. The best thing for her is when she realises at a class reunion that her former pupils have become mature people.

Intrinsic Campus

Children should learn what they want to learn. The Zurich University of Teacher Education Intrinsic Campus focuses on this and teaches the methods of intrinsic learning. The thesis is: digitalisation in education is individual work on realistic challenges. Pupils and teachers use technical tools to work on topics at their own pace and using appropriate methods, regardless of time and place. The philosophy behind it: Providing scope for inspiration and mutual support in the classroom enables sustainable and enjoyable learning.

In our series, which was created in collaboration with the Intrinsic Campus, we introduce teachers who teach in public schools and share their enjoyment of the teaching profession and intrinsic learning.
