How language gets into the head

«Mother tongue doesn't just start when children begin to utter their first words.» Neuropsychologist Martin Meyer outlines how language develops in the child's brain. You can watch his full presentation here.

Together with his research group, the titular professor at the Department of Neuropsychology at the University of Zurich investigates the connections between language, hearing and the brain. Among other things, he is interested in the question of how human language came about and what interactions take place between the brain and language.

Lecture from 23.11.2021 (59:35 min): The acquisition of the mother tongue does not just begin when children start to utter their first words. «The first signs that the brain is absorbing language can be traced back to the last few weeks before birth,» says the neuropsychologist. His lecture outlines the development of the brain from prenatal maturation through birth to the end of the first year of life.
