Bullying - how parents and schools can help
Bullying can leave deep psychological scars on affected children and young people and have a lasting impact on their development. «That's why teachers and parents should intervene as early as possible as soon as bullying tendencies are recognisable,» emphasises Christelle Schläpfer. She is recognised in Switzerland as a leading expert in the field of bullying and cyberbullying.
The mental health of bullied children is impaired
«Children who are bullied don't feel like they belong, they feel rejected and threatened. This can lead to trauma, social isolation and an impairment of their mental health,» Schläpfer continues. The suicide rate among adults who were bullied in their childhood is significantly higher than among those who were not.
In her presentation, the former secondary school teacher explains the mechanisms and effects of bullying. She gives specific recommendations for parents on how they can support their child in a bullying situation.
