I have been creative for as long as I can remember. Even as a little girl, I drew faces and did crafts with my neighbour. From Neocolor to acrylic paints, I wanted to try everything. This inner drive to create something has stayed with me right up to my choice of career.
A colleague's mother was a graphic designer, and when I discovered her work at her home, I was immediately hooked. I was in about the fourth year of primary school at the time and was given the opportunity to accompany her to work for two days. The fact that there was a profession in which I could live out my passion was a revelation for me.
When I started secondary school, my mum suggested I check out other careers at the careers guidance centre. But that didn't change my mind about wanting to be a graphic designer. However, someone who was training at my current training company at the time told me about the EFZ interactive media designer apprenticeship.
I can work with both analogue and digital media. I really like this mix.
A newer profession in which creativity is also paramount. I did a trial run at the company and was accepted. Getting the apprenticeship was a stroke of luck. Appenzell is a small place, so there are few companies offering this apprenticeship. I was very happy!
Now I design social media content, posters and flyers, so I can work both analogue and digitally. I also do filming, photography and web design. I really enjoy this mix so far, and I believe it will equip me well for future developments.
