Emilia (10) about homework: «I like learning words»
Emilia: «I prefer learning words to doing maths because I often still have questions. I work to a weekly schedule, which I find exhausting because it often seems stressful. On the other hand, it helps me to organise the tasks. However, it bothers me when a subject teacher then adds extra work to the main teacher's weekly plan. I prefer to do them with my friends.»
Giacomo: «Reading is my favourite homework, I like doing maths worksheets the least, I only think logicals are cool. The only time I forget to do my homework is when I have football training. In any case, I do everything in the after-school care programme so that I have time off afterwards and can play.»
Research shows that older siblings often help younger ones with the Ufzgi, too.
Her father says: «Abolish homework? I wouldn't go that far. What I see as a problem is the amount. Second and fourth-graders have to cope with a huge amount of work that robs them of all their free time, both the good and the less good pupils. Many of them also have a hobby or two. And so they sit behind their books until late or at the weekend instead of sleeping or spending their free time with other children. They often need help from their parents. However, it should not be assumed that parents have to help their children with this. This is not the parents' job. What's more, social inequalities are opening up here.»
