Dreamy children: our theme for September

Editor-in-chief Nik Niethammer presents the topics of the September issue in our cover film . The focus is on dreamy children.

The new issue will be published on Tuesday, 25 August 2020 and can be ordered online as a single issue.

Editor-in-chief Nik Niethammer presents his personal reading tips for the new issue in a Zoom interview.

Assuming I could only give you one reading recommendation from this issue, I would have to pass: We have - in my opinion - compiled so many excellent texts on 92 pages that I would like to briefly mention at least three:
In the dossier «The dreamy child», psychologists Stefanie Rietzler and Fabian Grolimund explore the question of why more and more pupils are finding it difficult to concentrate, listen and work independently. Particularly worth reading: 25 tips for parents on how best to deal with their dreamy child.
The monthly interview with psychotherapist Allan Guggenbühl contains several remarkable sentences: «Children need a healthy amount of neglect,» is one of them. Another is: «Children are allowed to behave antisocially from time to time.» The man knows what he is talking about: he has been looking after families for 30 years. I highly recommend the interview.
In the first part of our new series «Sibling myths», author Corinna Hartmann puts it in a nutshell: «Siblings shape us at least as much as our parents.» Exciting.
Is your daughter looking for an apprenticeship and wants a job with a future? Ever thought about becoming a drone traffic manager? Is your son familiar with social media? Then I recommend a career as a digital undertaker. After a person's death, they take care of their digital legacy on personal websites and social networks and offer a dignified deletion ceremony on request. «What do I want to be?», we ask for the sixth time in our career choice booklet, which is enclosed with the September issue. On 76 pages, my colleague Stefan Michel has compiled everything you need to know about looking for a job - the result is a handbook that guides young people and parents through this exciting and intensive time in seven steps. (You can also order a single copy here).
You can now listen to even more tips and information in our 12-part career choice podcast «What do I want to be?», produced by Podcast-Schmiede Winterthur. All episodes are now available free of charge at www.fritzundfraenzi.ch or on your podcast app (Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts). It's worth listening in!
«Only children are spoilt and can't share.» A parenting myth that has persisted for years. Is it true? In a current campaign, the Stiftung Elternsein foundation, publisher of the Swiss parenting magazine Fritz+Fränzi, puts 15 of the best-known parenting myths to the test. You can find all the subjects and the answers from renowned experts at www.fritzundfraenzi.ch.

And another note on our own behalf: our «Kosmos Kind» lecture series - which was cancelled in spring due to coronavirus - is picking up speed again. We have - optimistic as we are - finalised dates until July 2021; eleven experts have confirmed their attendance and will be speaking on the various aspects of childhood. Parent education at its best. Here is an overview of all the topics and dates.
As always, I look forward to hearing from you. How do you like this issue, what topics do you miss, what can we do better? We look forward to hearing from you. As you know, praise goes a long way!
I wish you and your loved ones
success, stay cheerful, stay mindful.
Yours sincerely - Nik Niethammer
