Our magazine in February
Dear reader
A residential home for refugees was recently opened in our neighbourhood. Before the people moved in, our children were allowed to have a look round. Like two little explorers, they trudged through the cramped accommodation, examined the communal kitchen and washrooms and the 16 square metres of floor space that each family has to live in. In the end, they realised almost triumphantly: «A container like this is not much bigger
not much bigger than our playroom.»
The refugees are here. And they are among us. «How immigrant children and young people are changing - and improving - our schools» is the title of a book that caused a stir last year - and triggered many spiteful reactions from anti-refugee campaigners. I asked the author Katharina Blass to show us what impact immigration is having on our education system. And what to make of the concern that hardly any German is spoken in classes overflowing with refugees and that the quality of teaching is suffering.
«A generation that is increasingly
years of life is struggling with burnout, is designing a life path for its own children with even
life with even more speed, even more performance, even more «promotion». She is turning
kindergartens into schools because
because she believes that children who learn maths
maths at an early age will reach their goal faster.
Wait a minute - what goal?»Herbert Renz-Polster, German paediatrician,

We at Schweizer ElternMagazin are a little proud to have Michèle Binswanger on board, who was honoured by the industry magazine «Schweizer Journalist» as «Social Journalist of the Year 2016». According to the jury's statement, Binswanger's range of topics is enormous. «It ranges from «Football: A Reckoning» to «Junk Journalism» and «Sex Islamism». But her theses are ideologically incalculable. She is the politically incorrect feminist of journalism.»
In this issue, you can see for yourself that the graduate philosopher and mother of two always hits the nerve of the times with her eloquence and strong opinions: in her most personal Fritz+Fränzi column to date, the author writes about the beauty of love. And the pain it causes. A great text, in my opinion.
I hope you enjoy reading this issue. You will also find selected stories from the magazine on this website in the coming days - as well as texts that we only publish online on our website at www.fritzundfraenzi.ch.
Yours sincerely, Nik Niethammer
