«I missed my colleagues terribly»
Hedi Sucksdorff, 14, from Schindellegi SZ has a 12-year-old sister and likes to let her feelings out in Thai boxing.
"At some point during the pandemic, there was a moment when I was really scared. I thought: What if I have to spend my whole time at school like this? I really didn't want to do that. All this online teaching is not for me, I can concentrate much better on the lessons when I'm sitting in a classroom with the teacher at the front. That's why I actually wanted us to get back to school quickly the whole time. I was also quite nervous because I was about to move to the sixth form and I didn't know how I was going to manage the grades if we stayed in lockdown.
Before the pandemic, I met with my colleagues every day. We have
a place where we could chat, listen to music, things like that. I really missed all that, I was very bored at home. I did my homework for school and watched series, I can recommend «Naruto». But that was no substitute for socialising. I talked and chatted a lot with colleagues on the phone and we exchanged homework.
I argued more with my parents than before, we spent more time together, so that's probably normal. I've now started Thai boxing, which I do two or three times a week. My stepfather took me there once. It's really exhausting, I'm completely exhausted afterwards. It's a great feeling to be able to let it all out.
My father lives in Sweden and I visit him a few times a year with my younger sister. I often argue with her, but sometimes we are also best friends. We then travel alone on the plane and I've realised how much fun it is and how comfortable I feel. That's why I want to become a flight attendant. I can combine flying with a second passion: travelling. We have travelled a lot with our parents, for example to Vietnam or Morocco. I like discovering foreign landscapes and eating things I don't know. I speak several languages, which comes in handy when travelling. Since the pandemic, I've also been informing myself a lot more. Corona is still around and I want to know what's happening in the world. That's why I follow the BBC's Instagram account."
