How much sleep does my child need?

How can parents help their child to fall asleep independently? What needs to be considered when it comes to children in the parents' bed? And how much sleep does a newborn, a kindergarten child and later a teenager in puberty need? Rabia Liamlahi talks about this in her lecture.

Sleep accompanies children and adolescents as a central theme on their developmental path from birth to adulthood. Even in the first few weeks of life, an infant has to master an essential developmental task - finding a balanced sleep-wake rhythm with the help of their parents. In her lecture from 14 March 2023 (58:07 min), Rabia Liamlahi also talks about the much-discussed topic of "children in their parents' bed" and uses case studies to present individual solutions for disturbed sleep.

Paediatrician Dr Rabia Liamlahi has been working as a senior physician in the Department of Developmental Paediatrics at the University Children's Hospital Zurich since 2018. After studying at the Charité in Berlin and the Université libre de Bruxelles and completing her specialist training in Zurich, she specialised in sleep counselling for children and adolescents as a developmental paediatrician in her clinical work.
