A weekend on the Stoos
Experience
The first highlight comes right at the start: the funicular railway from Schwyz to Stoos climbs a gradient of 110 per cent, making it the steepest funicular railway in the world. However, thanks to the automatic levelling of the cabins, passengers are always on a level surface during the ride. Once on the mountain, the adventure continues for young and old; from «Tschumplä» to «Brätlä» and «Dräcklä» to enjoying and pausing for a moment.
The natural paradise of Stoos has many family-friendly hiking trails. The new Fronalpweg trail provides an insight into the life of the alpine herdsmen on Stoos, their traditions and rituals with fun stations. The trail leads over hill and dale to well-tended alpine meadows and fantastic views from the summit of Fronalp Stock down to Stoos-Seeli. A wooden ball accompanies you on the special ball track trail.
The Stooshorn circuit offers attractions for fun and games. In addition to the playful elements, there are also boards with QR codes on the circular trail through the mountain village, which can be used to listen to exciting short stories about the past and history of Stoos on a mobile phone.
A 1.6-kilometre-long nature trail leads through the Teufböni flat and raised bog area. The moorland trail provides playful information about the moor at eight different stations and offers plenty of exercise, fun and variety. After an eventful hike, you can relax at idyllic fireplaces and picnic spots and put a sausage over the fire. Whether with family or friends, nature and the well-equipped sites invite you to spend cosy hours outdoors. The fire pit at Stoos-Seeli is particularly beautiful. You can cool your feet in the water via a footbridge or have a good «sudlä» and «dräcklä» at the water feature.
Enjoy
At 1922 metres above sea level high above Lake Lucerne, carefree hours and breathtaking views await. The Fronalpstock is accessible by chairlift and wonderful hiking trails. While parents puzzle over the Alpine foothills on the viewing platform, children can romp around in the large Geissli playground. The dwarf goats in the petting zoo look forward to lots of playtime with their two-legged friends. And the large sun terrace of the Fronalpstock hotel/restaurant is the perfect place to linger.
«StoosLiäbi» goes through the stomach: during the summer months, the numerous restaurants on Stoos cater for the well-being of all guests with international cuisine and regional specialities. There is a mixture of alpine flair and warm hospitality. The picturesque mountain landscape with views of majestic Alpine peaks provides the perfect feel-good ambience.
