Our weekend in Braunwald
Good to know...
Braunwald was one of the first tourist destinations in Switzerland to declare itself car-free. The tourist heart of the holiday region on the Klausen Pass at 1256 metres above sea level can be reached by one of the steepest funicular railways in the world - or on foot, by bike or e-bike.

Experience...
Your family's nature explorers and climbing acrobats will get their money's worth on the six-kilometre Glarnerland play and adventure trail . With a discovery set in their rucksack, participants set off on the hike, which starts at the Braunwald railway in Linthal and leads to twelve playgrounds with different challenges: Scaling a summit, building a leaf dwelling, laying a mandala. At the top in Braunwald , three more adventure trails await families, such as the Zwerg-Bartli adventure trail .
Games and adventure trail: single entry per family CHF 20 per rucksack (excl. deposit). Rucksack hire from 7 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. www. spieleunderlebnisweg.ch
Can it be a little higher and more exposed? You'll find the perfect terrain for your first climbing attempts on the beginners' and children's via ferrata in Braunwald . It is suitable for children aged 7 and over accompanied by an adult. It starts on the Gumen (1900 metres above sea level) just behind the mountain inn and takes one to two hours to climb. Other via ferratas for advanced climbers lead over the summits of the Eggstöcke. The routes are always on the ridge. Equipment can be hired from the mountain inn.
Equipment hire: at the Gumen mountain inn, Mon to Sun 8.20 am to 1 pm, equipment return by arrangement on site. www. klettersteige.ch, www.braunwald.ch > Experiences > Summer > Sport > Via ferrata

In the middle of the mountain landscape of the Glarus Alps, hiking is a special pleasure. Here you will find tours of all levels of difficulty and here and there you can enjoy typical Glarus specialities such as Schabziger, Kalberwurst or Magenträs. A particularly popular route leads from the railway station in Braunwald to Nussbüel with the restaurant of the same name. This walk, which mostly follows a horizontal path through sections of forest and past small mountain streams, takes around an hour. There are various options for the way back over or down to the Klausen Pass road.
