A weekend on the Engstligenalp

The plateau above Adelboden should really be called Globi Alp. This is because the popular children's book character is at the centre of numerous family-friendly activities. But the Alp also has plenty to offer sports and nature enthusiasts as well as cheese lovers.

Experience

There is plenty for the whole family to discover on the Engstligenalp in both summer and winter. And plenty of opportunities for children to let off steam with fun and games. Many of the attractions on the 2000 metre high plateau in the mountains around Adelboden revolve around Globi. It all starts with the journey: you can easily reach the alp from Adelboden on the Globi cable car. Once there, however, you must first take a look at the breathtaking Engstligen Falls: the water of the surrounding mountain streams plunges almost 600 metres over two steps.

The Globi cable car operates from 27 June to 18 October 2020 and from 4 January to 5 April 2021 on Saturdays and Sundays plus Good Friday and Easter Monday. Additionally from 13 July to 9 August and from 28 September to 11 October and from 26 December 2020 to 3 January 2021. Operating hours: 9.30-12.30 and 14.30-16.30. Family ticket (2 adults with a maximum of 4 children) return: 56 Fr.

In addition to the cows and herdsmen, fans of Globi, both young and old, get their money's worth on the Engstligenalp. On the Globi Alpine, Mountain and Crystal trails, you can follow in the footsteps of the cult children's book character, observe animals or play with water. And at certain times, you can even meet the blue children's friend with the chequered trousers in person on the alp.

In winter, you can have fun with Globi in the snow high above Adelboden : exploring the Kinderland, hurtling down the slope on a Globi Tube or in the Globi ski school, where children can improve their skills on the slopes with the help of the parrot man. A large snow playground also awaits the children.

Enjoy

Anyone who loves cheese and is interested in traditional alpine dairying should take the opportunity to be transported back to the days when cheese was made by hand . The day begins with a short walk across the flower-filled alp. Once at the alpine dairy hut, visitors are greeted by the dairymaid and accompanied to the cosy Chucheli. There you can look over the farmer's shoulder and watch the cheese being made.

The offer is valid from the end of June to the end of August. Registration required by 2 p.m. the day before at the Engstligenalp mountain railway, 033 673 32 70 or at info@engstligenalp.ch.

In autumn, when the cows have left their summering area, the Aellig family's rustic alpine hut is transformed into a raclette hut . A few days are spent clearing and scrubbing until you hardly notice that the cosy restaurant is actually a cowshed. During the six-week operating period, many a hiker enters the unique restaurant in wonder and amazement and lingers for a tasty raclette made in this alpine hut.

The Globi Alpine Festival will take place on Engstligenalp on 5 July 2020. There will be market stalls with alpine products, various treats, fun games and lots of surprises - with Globi naturally taking centre stage. One of the highlights of this year's festival is the opening of the new book «Globi auf der Alp». To make sure you don't miss anything of the festival, we recommend an overnight stay at the mountain hotel.

Overnight stay

The Berghotel Engstligenalp is located around 150 metres from the top station of the cable car. From its sun terrace you can enjoy a fantastic view of the Strubel massif. The hotel has a modern self-service restaurant with a bar serving refreshments to suit all tastes. In summer, there is a play gondola in front of the hotel for children. And in winter, they can spend time in the sunny Schneekinderland right next door. The accommodation is characterised by natural materials, lots of warm wood and stylish details. The room rate includes a three-course dinner and a hearty breakfast as well as free entry to the small but cosy sauna. There is a cosy family room in the Chalet Wildstrubel right next to the mountain hotel.
