100 questions and answers. Our magazine in June

Our June issue will be available from newsagents from Tuesday 28 May . And it has it all: in the most comprehensive dossier of all time, experts answer the 100 most pressing questions on parenting, family and school. Editor-in-chief Nik Niethammer on the current issue.
Nik Niethammer talks about the June 2019 issue.

Dear reader.

The parenting thing comes at some point, I thought when I became a father for the first time. At first there is a lot of cuddling and fussing, amazement, rapture and love. And that's how it was. But the parenting thing came sooner than I thought.

What to do when the boy punches his sister in the face, can't lose in a game, struggles with transitions? What to do when the daughter dawdles endlessly at the breakfast table, floods the doll's house, makes a big fuss when washing her hair?

How does parenting work?
It's the mother of all questions that we parents have to deal with. What is the right recipe? How much care is appropriate, how much trust is necessary? How do you find the ideal balance between love and strictness?

Parenting is trial and error. Sometimes a plan catches on and you're in luck. Only to realise wearily the next day: It's business as usual. The first child whines while brushing his teeth, while the second trudges through the living room in swamp boots. Our columnist Mikael Krogerus sums it up perfectly in his essay «The thing with children» : «Today, I think the following applies to parenting: the opposite is always wrong.»

So how does education work? How does a child learn to learn? What does a child need for a successful life? Our lead author Claudia Landolt has compiled 100 questions that parents ask themselves time and again. And she asked 29 renowned experts - psychologists, therapists, paediatricians, scientists and educationalists - for answers. The result is the most comprehensive dossier in the history of our parents' magazine. 100 questions - 100 answers.

If you like our dossier, I recommend that you make a note of Monday, 24 June. Because the next edition of our «Talk im Kulturpark» series of events will also be centred around the question «How does parenting work?». We have invited guests who will have their say in this issue.
